Biodynamics

Biodynamic agriculture takes the principles of organic farming to the next level.

Biodynamic viticulture, based on principles conceived by Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s, stresses the importance of holistic considerations in nature that effect the health and strength of the vine.

This might embrace the use of natural fertilizers and treatments applied homœopathically to the vines to increase the vine's resistance to disease, as well as carrying out processes in the vineyard, pruning and harvesting etc., resulting in healthier vines and better tasting fruit.

Biodynamics studies the relationship of the vine with the sun, moon, stars and earth, and this extends into the winemaking itself whereby the timing of the various processes, right up to bottling, may be determined by the position of the sun and moon in particular. Such regimes reflect age old methods of winemaking in a truly environmentally friendly manner.

'Cranky'...it may sound like it but it does work. Many top class winemakers are embracing these principles with amazing success. Blind tastings have confirmed, not only is the winemaking process 'easier' on the emerging wine but that it tastes better too.
